Hope: Finding and Claiming your Superpower Book Study

super power book

On Wednesday, May 31st at 6:30PM join us for a discussion to delve a bit deeper into the book "Hope and Other Superpowers" that we have been using during our current Worship series! This will be a one-night discussion in person and online via Zoom! Here’s a short synopsis of the book:

Overwhelmed by the news cycle and the state of affairs in our world? Author and Pastor John Pavlovitz has provided this book as a rousing and inspirational guide. Drawing from lessons of our favorite superheroes, Pavlovitz shows how we can band together, live more heroically and meaningfully and save the world!

“Hope and Other Superpowers” is an invitation to anyone hoping to be the kind of person the world so desperately needs: the kind who can save it. In other words: It’s an invitation to you.

The Church has a few copies of the book if you would like to purchase one. The cost is $10 each. See Kim or call the office if you would like a book.

Social Justice Brunch and Matinee July 2023

The soloist

Following the worship service on July 16th, we will have a light brunch followed by a movie. In recognition of July being “Minority Mental Health Awareness Month”, our movie will be The Soloist starring Jamie Foxx. This powerful movie tells the story of a talented musician who is homeless and deals with mental illness. Following the movie, we will have a brief discussion about the intersection of homelessness, mental health, and discrimination. We are asking you to sign up by  following the link below or in person after church. This will help us plan for room arrangement and food. We are requesting a $5 donation at the door to help pay for the meal. If you have any questions, contact Kim Rabon-Noyce at the church office.

Social Justice Virtual Book Club August Meeting

read banned books

In August the book club will be doing something a little different.

We are asking everyone who cares to participate to read something off of any banned book list (you can find a list on Amazon; or you can type “banned book list” into google).  You might even consider a children’s book or a classic.

On Monday, Aug. 21 at 7:00 PM we will share via zoom why our chosen books might have been banned and discuss the current issues around banned books. Please consider joining this great group.
